Descrição
This session examines what the AfCFTA Protocol means in practice for the offices of Attorneys General, from the prospective replacement of 173 intra-African bilateral investment treaties to the still-unfinished Annex on dispute settlement that will determine whether, and in what form, ISDS applies to intra-African investment. The session is designed to be forward-looking and operationally relevant. The dispute settlement Annex remains under active negotiation, making this a live policy question rather than an academic one. Attorneys General are the officials who will need to align domestic legal frameworks with whatever emerges, manage the transition away from legacy BITs, and advise their governments on the strategic implications.
